Why Play Elite at Vegas United?

- by David Wren, Director of Elite Programming

You should play Elite at Vegas United because we are highly motivated to win, but care more about developing kids 1st, players 2nd.

Elite at Vegas United has a strong foundation for success, we are highly motivated and our focus is clear.

VU has a Strong Foundation for Success
You should play VU Elite because we have a strong foundation for success. At VU there are no politics and our practice location in Summerlin is easily accessible, on natural grass. While most clubs try to grow as many teams as they can while lacking to build an internal organization to support that growth, VU has done the opposite. They have been patiently waiting in the background building a positive, but competitive culture and an internal organization to support growth.

VU is extremely well organized behind the scenes with next level communication. I don’t know another club that communicates even close to how VU communicates with their members. Emails are sent out just when you need them. If you email VU a question they reply with an answer.

VU is Highly Motivated
You should play VU Elite because we are highly motivated to build a true Elite program that is stamped on the map. Not just anyone is invited. We have only one Elite team per age/gender. Each Elite team must be a committed, gold level team that has fun competing. We are highly motivated to win, but care more about developing kids 1st, players 2nd. When we help our kids have fun, play with passion and be fearless the wins will come. We will be known not just for our record, but for how great our kids are.

Bonus! Our Club President, and entire board, is not only a talented coach, but cares deeply about our VU Family. He has been the driving force behind VU for almost a decade, is well respected in our community and has done more than we can imagine for youth soccer in Las Vegas and Nevada.

What Defines an Elite Team at VU?

An Elite VU Team sets the culture standard for our club.

An Elite VU Team is a committed, gold+ level team that has fun competing.

This team sets the standard for our positive, but competitive culture. They strongly believe in our mission to develop kids 1st, players 2nd. Players, and their parents, love that we care as much about teaching them how to be good people as we do coaching them how to be great players.

An Elite VU Team sets the culture standard.
Our players, parents and coaches honor being role models for our VU Family of recreational, competitive and elite teams.

On the field players have fun, play with passion and are fearless. They smile often, celebrate when they score and say “No Big Deal” when a teammate makes a mistake. Off the field their bags are in a line, they proudly wear our full kit with pride and are respectful and kind. If a younger player walks by them at practice they give them a #VUp Bump so they feel included. If they see a piece of trash on the ground they pick it up.

An Elite VU Team is committed.
This team commits to be a part of our VU Family on and off the field. Players and parents formalize their commitment in a #VUp pledge.

For players their commitment includes a 2.5 GPA or higher, 5 volunteer hours a season, practicing on average three times a week, being respectful to refs, playing against elite competition in local/regional leagues and regular tournaments, showing up on time and regular attendance.

For parents their commitment includes positive/competitive sideline behavior, being respectful to refs, supporting their kid’s commitments and treating their coach kindly.

Players and parents understand failure to fulfill their #VUp pledge will result in decreased play time, disciplinary action and/or removal from the team.

An Elite VU Team is gold+ level.
Playing Elite at VU is earned, not a hand out, even internally. Not every A team at VU will earn Elite Status. This team competes consistently in State Cup with a full roster of at least two subs. This team competes in Desert Conference Premier League and USYS National Leagues.

An Elite VU Team competes.
This team exemplifies our "Always Improve" core value because by improving they have more fun competing. Players compete in practice, games and probably even hate to lose in FIFA! They love to win, but understand winning isn’t everything and it’s their development that matters most.

What Defines an Elite Coach at VU?

An Elite VU Coach is a role model for our kids.

An Elite VU Coach is positive and competitive, with an always improve attitude who is dependable and qualified.

This coach wants to be a part of our positive, but competitive culture and strongly believes in our mission to develop kids 1st, players 2nd. They proudly rock our red and black kit with pride. They believe in our mission and care as much about teaching a kid how to greet their teammates by asking “How was your day?” as they do coaching ball control.

As a culture champion this coach spreads our “Fun, Passion, Fearless” attitude with ease like how a Nike sponsored athlete spreads “Just Do It”. This coach greets our members with a #VUp Bump everytime. It might be weird at first, but they are open and willing to make the #VUp Bump a habit. Not handshakes, not high fives. A #VUp Bump everytime.

An Elite VU coach is positive and competitive.
This coach is patient and says “No Big Deal” when a mistake happens, and then works to correct the mistake in a positive and constructive way. Versus screaming at our kids “got to be better!” This person is not a screamer.

An Elite VU Coach has an always improve attitude.
This person is a learner with an urge to always improve on and off the field.

Improving “on the field” like pursuing advanced licensing, reading, studying other coaches, listening to podcasts, etc. Improving “off the field” like improving the soft skills of leadership to help win the relationship game with their team. Soft skills such as how to use our culture as a competitive advantage, communication, time management, delivering player evaluations, etc.

An Elite VU Coach is dependable.
This coach is willing and able to attend local and regional tournaments. They show up on time, more times than not, and do what they say they will do. You can count on her.

An Elite VU Coach is qualified.
This coach is a former player who looks legit passing a ball. They have a C license or higher and/or has 5+ years of experience* with a track record of success. They focus on player development first. Team tactics second. They believe by developing the individual player first, their team will thrive and wins will come.

*Candidates who don’t meet minimum license/experience requirements can be hired with Executive Director and Board approval. Approval is dependent on the candidate meeting above guidelines minus license and/or experience qualifications with a written commitment to accelerate their continued education to meet our license/experience qualifications within one year of being hired.
