Summerlin Youth Soccer
Share the beautiful game of soccer in a “stress free” environment to young players guided by our club mission to develop kids 1st, players 2nd.
We introduce your child to the joys soccer in an environment promoting having fun, playing with passion and being fearless. Having Fun is the reason kids want to play any game or sport. And Passion is something we want to instill in our players for the sport of soccer. While being Fearless allows kids to push themselves without being scared to make a mistake. We actually have a rule that when you make a mistake coaches and teammates should say, "No Big Deal!"
Summerlin Youth Soccer League consist of two divisions with four teams in each division. Our Vegas Division will be for younger players or those who are either new to the sport or need a little more confidence on the ball playing in a 3v3 format. While the United Division will be for the older and more confident players, playing in a 4v4 format. The expectation is that the United Division will prepare your child to join one of our competitive teams the following season. Neither Division will utilize goalies and instead focus on developing a player’s foot skills and field knowledge. At this age, it is more important to promote active engagement from each player, and assigning a player to the goalie position limits their ability engage with their teammates and develop their soccer skills. This is similar to the policy held by the leagues that host competitive soccer clubs in Nevada.
The teams will practice together to promote good sportsmanship between the players and their families. Players from different teams will sit together during games to encourage them to cheer for one another. And families will be given a league-wide roster so they can also cheer for players on the other team. The Home Team will bring snacks/drinks for both teams after each game to foster relationships between all of our players and families.
Parents will be strongly discouraged from “coaching” during the games. Instead, we want our parents to provide positive feedback to their player so that they enjoy their experience. It is more important for the players to play for FUN, with PASSION, and be FEARLESS. The technical aspect and knowledge of the game will come with time. But that time will never arrive if a player fails to develop their passion for the sport.
Sit back and enjoy watching your son or daughter have fun playing soccer. And if this means also watching them sit down in the middle of a game to catch their breath, or simply pick flowers, NO BIG DEAL. This is another mantra of our Club, “No Big Deal!!!” We encourage our competitive players, coaches, and parents to shout this when they see a mistake on the field, so that a player knows they have an entire team and fans supporting them; allowing that player to move past the mistake and get their head back into the game.
PRACTICES AND GAMES
Seasons last eight weeks, typically starting and ending during fall and spring time. All practices and games are held at Spotted Leaf Park in Summerlin on select weeknights beginning at 5:30 p.m. No weekend games/practices so you can enjoy other commitments!
The first two weeks consist of practices on select weeknights from 5:30 to 6:15. Starting on the third week practice will continue on the first night from 5:30 to 6:15 while the second night will consist of a short warm up followed by a 30 minute game between two of our Summerlin Youth Soccer League teams. The players will be assigned to one of four co-ed teams following the second week of practice to allow for balanced teams. Each team will play one another twice during the season, resulting in six games during the season. Game times will be determined at a later date, but are expected to run between 5:45 and 7:00. The Vegas Division will play a 3v3 format to maximize the touches each player gets during a game and the field will be slightly smaller than the United Division, which will play 4v4. As mentioned above, the expectation is for our players to graduate from the Summerlin Youth Soccer league and be assigned to a recreational or competitive Vegas United team when the player reaches the age of eight.
COSTS, EQUIPMENT AND REGISTRATION
The League will cost $90.00 per player and will include a game jersey and size 3 ball if your player was not issued one in the Fall. Each player will supply their own shorts, socks, and shin guards.
Please note we are limiting the number of players in the league to 40 children. In the event demand is higher than 40 players, your child will be placed on a waiting list.
